Moodle is an Open Source Server-Based Learning Management System (LMS). An LMS provides an environment for creating online learning communities.  The advantage of an open source product is not only its price tag (free) but also its user community.  An open source project is only as good as the community that supports it - and Moodle has over 330,000 registered users.  In fact, according to moodle.org there are currently 40,021 moodle sites with 17,084,794 users!

Why would I want to use a Moodle?

Creating an online component to an inperson class or for creating an entirely online course.  Moodle is based on learning principals and provides an avenue to enhance your coursees.
